Versatile ELT Publisher is a small, independent publishing venture based in Brno, Czechia. Since 2015, it’s been producing fresh, thoughtful resources for learners and teachers of English as a second or foreign language. Most titles are written, co-authored, or curated by James Thomas.

We publish what others won’t—resources grounded in contemporary linguistics and open to real-world topics, including the so-called PARSNIP ones. Not to provoke, but to respect learners’ and teachers’ intelligence. Driven by curiosity and a belief in discovery-based learning, our work values adaptability, imagination and integrity over market-safe blandness.

Thanks to advances in self-publishing and digital tools, Versatile ELT Publisher stays agile, experimental and collaborative. Books.by prints and distributes our paperboak books, while our e-books and e-courses are available through Payhip.

James Thomas is a lifelong language learner, teacher, and since 1997, teacher trainer. His main focus is vocabulary: how it’s learned, taught, used, and discovered through language itself. His task-based approach helps students become independent learners with ever-growing linguistic depth and confidence.

Over the past two decades, James has published books and articles, developed online courses, delivered training across the world (every continent except Australia—where he’s from), and co-authored a British Council ELTon award-winning book.
